Torenia, The Wishbone Flower
Torenia is a beautiful purple flower that has creeping and trailing properties. It can be an ideal plant to decorate your hanging pots as it tends to hang from the edges of the basket. They can cover an area of about 80 cm, you can use them in your window boxes and container pots or as a ground cover.
It grows from seeds and gives you the amazing purple flowers reasonably fast. You can also grow this plant indoors next to your window.
The name wishbone comes from the way the flower looks as if there is a wishbone right in the middle of it.
Torenia flowering time lasts from early summer to autumn.
It likes rich soil with partial shade. Make sure you mulch around the plant to prevent drying. If planted in a hanging basket needs regular watering. it also prefers a fertilizer that is high in phosphorus. Make sure you pinch the dead flowers to encourage further flowering.
